AI visibility, in simple terms
Traditional search visibility is usually about where a page appears in search results. AI visibility is broader: it asks whether an AI system knows enough about a business to mention it accurately and whether it surfaces that business when a user asks for a recommendation.
That can include branded questions, unbranded discovery searches, comparisons and highly specific customer needs. A business can rank well in conventional search and still be inconsistently represented in AI-generated answers.
What an AI visibility checker can test
A useful checker should do more than ask an AI model whether it has heard of your brand. It should test realistic customer intent and keep results attributable to the AI platform being tested.
- Whether the business is understood accurately
- Whether it appears for relevant unbranded searches
- Which competitors or alternatives appear instead
- What website and third-party evidence supports the business
- Which gaps are actionable rather than merely cosmetic
Why results differ between AI platforms
ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity are separate systems with different models, retrieval methods and information sources. The same question can therefore produce different businesses, wording and evidence.
That is why a multi-engine view is more useful than treating 'AI' as one universal search engine.
What a score cannot tell you on its own
A single visibility score is useful for summarising a run, but it should not replace the underlying evidence. The important questions are where the business appeared, what was understood correctly, what was missing and what can realistically be improved.
Visilyo therefore combines scores with engine-level findings, positives and prioritised recommendations.
